Welcome to the Main Turk Database!
Enter the Main Turk Database
About this database: This database is a guild of one name studies work by Dr. Toni Richard Turk.
It details separate individuals within one degree of
relationship to this surname and its’ identified variant spellings. We
maintain the online database record on Root Web's World Connect site at: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=turk-guild
. The website for our project is located at: http://www.turkgenealogy.com/
. We are also maintaining a parallel supporting Y-DNA Surname Project. The
public record of that effort is found at: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/turk%2Dguild/.
The Main Turk database is made of a GEDCOM file
(Genealogical Electronic Data Communications.) Content of the GEDCOMs is
uploaded through the World Connect Program. If you have a problem with a
particular entry, please contact the submitter of said entry. Dr. Toni Richard
Turk has full control over the database and your GEDCOM and can change or remove
it at any time.
This database is updated at the beginning of every month (or when ever
Toni gets to it.) If you want to see the notes on the entries contact
Toni Turk via e-mail at
trturk@frontiernet.net.
If you want to see the sources for the records or how the individuals in this database are distributed across
the world go to segmented by country.
It will show you the count of both individuals and families in each country or
state.
Note: Due to privacy issues only deceased people are viewable but the
database does contain and accept live Turks. Please search to your heart's
content. You are using a read-only version so you can not mess up
anything.
The online record does not include the
sources, but these are readily available upon request from
trturk@frontiernet.net.
Most recently, the extraction of all entries
(surname, location & topic) have been completed from Rootsweb.com.
Previously, all IGI entries, excluding Scandinavia, have been extracted. All
identified published TURK surname books filed with the Family History Library in
Salt Lake City have been extracted. Other completed extraction efforts have
included the 1880 US census, the US Social Security Death Index, Find-a-Grave,
and archive records from Gorzow Wielkopolski (Landsberg an der Warthe).
Additionally, numerous online vital records such as marriage and obituaries have
been added. Major contributions have also been made by individual researchers
who have graciously submitted their records for inclusion.
This Guild effort includes all records
regardless of the race, the ethnicity or the religion of the subject.
Contributions and corrections are most appreciated. They may be submitted in any
format; however GEDCOMs are the easiest to incorporate. Custom reports and
responses are made to all individual inquiries.
To Submit or Change Data in The Main Turk Database:
If you would like to submit or change data in The Main Turk Database there
at two ways to do this. The first and preferred method is to send your
data in a GEDCOM file format. What is a
GEDCOM?
1) Open a GEDCOM file (available free on the www) it will first ask to be saved on your local computer - fill out the fields,
attach it to an e-mail and send to Toni Turk
trturk@frontiernet.net.
OR: go to www.familysearch.com
and get the free download of PAF (Personal Ancestral File). You can then
enter all the data and forward the file to
trturk@frontiernet.net.
2) If that is to much too deal with, please complete the
submit or
change data form and at the bottom of the form it automatically sends it to
Toni Turk
trturk@frontiernet.net.
What information should you send in to the
database?
Details such as the date
and place of birth/christening, marriage and death/burial for each TURK. Then
for each TURK we would find that same information
for their spouse and children, including the
children of female TURKs. If you're using the submit or change data form -
put these details in the "comments" section at the bottom of the form. If you have a lot of data to submit (great!) you would be better off talking
with Toni on the best way to submit it (maybe creating
your own GEDCOM file and sending that to Toni.) We can then merge that into
the main Turk database for all to see.
Thanks for sharing,
Toni Turk
