TURK FOR PRESIDENT! The
November 23 issue of "The Chronicle of Higher Education" (page
A7) reports: "Danilo Turk, a professor of international law and
vice dean of the law
school at the University of Ljubljana, in Slovenia, has just
received a promotion by national consensus: He is his country's
new president.
"Mr. Turk handily defeated Slovenia's former prime minister,
Lojze Peterle, in a runoff election on November 11, garnering
over 68 percent of the vote. Slovenia's president-elect has a
background in international human-rights law. He served as an
assistant secretary general for political affairs at the United
Nations from 2000 to 2005."
