Privacy and Discrimination Policy
Privacy: It is the policy of this Turk Genealogy project to protect the rights and privacy of our living relatives. We strongly encourage all
involved to do their best not to place information on the Internet about anyone who is still living, unless you have their express
permission to do so. You will notice
that The Main Turk Database contains living Turks but the information is not viewable.
The ease of accessibility of information on the Internet is a strong reason to respect the privacy
of our living family members. Please use common sense when placing information on the web. If you care enough about your family to search for ancestors, please care enough to protect the descendants.
Here are a few ways you can help:
When requesting information [via e-mail, chat, queries, etc...], don't include personal information on living persons.
When responding to requests for information, especially to someone you don't really know, don't provide them with
personal information on living persons. They could post it on the web or do who knows what else with it.
When sharing GEDCOM files with others, remove information on all living persons before your share the file. Again,
information you share could end up on somebody's web site somewhere. Programs like GEDClean , GEDLiving , and
GEDPrivy can help automate this otherwise tedious task.

Construction Kit. It is not only helpful in creating a site, but also addresses the responsibilities that go along with it.
If you already have a genealogy web site, check your site and remove information on all living persons. Be
"living person aware" as you add new information to your site. If you are not sure about something, when in doubt, take it out.

Discrimination:
www.turkgenealogy, the Main TURK database and Y-DNA projects do not discriminate
based on ethnic, racial or religious lines. All are welcome in this effort.
Racial and religious data is not posted online. Those who choose to freely share
that sort of information are sometimes provided with keys that open research
doors. Some of the Y-DNA results listed on the site include the person's
name with a narrative that may point to racial or religious ties. These
results are posted only with the prior permission of the person.
We are TURKs without regard to religion, race or ethnicity. But there are
footnotes. It is difficult to say "forget about politics and forget about
religion". We would all like to be considered unprejudiced; however, the
facts and the history that we study include wars - and wars are most often
fought over religion, race and ethnicity. There are really deep roots, going all
the way back to the Crusades, which are reinforced by modern conflicts and
economic issues. Prejudice takes many forms. For TURK genealogy we rise above
the biases of history and current issues, to share our studies and to learn from
them. We do not subscribe to the evils of discrimination.
When we use the word TURK in all capitals it refers to all
surname variations. When you see a specific spelling such as Turc then you
know it is the spelling of a family line.
Responsible genealogy begins with responsible people. Enjoy.
