September 2004 - I like to inform you that I have opened yesterday common homepage of all Turkki families in Finland. The address of this page is http://www.turkki.info Take a look of the page and your opinions of the cait is welcome. The page is now on 6 languages finnish, swedish, English, french, spanish and russian  - Best wishes Petri Turkki, Heinola, Finland

2/1/2002 - I have studied my family history and have gone back to the year 1732 and continuing. I know that my family name have been during these years in these forms: First Turcki, then Turki and nowadays Turkki. There's a rumour in my family that our roots would come from Germany (Dürich-name???) but who knows? My family is coming from Valkjärvi parish and its the part of Finland that we lost to Russia because of the Winter War and WW 2 (see attached maps.) There has been two villages Päivilä (in old form Päifvilä) and Pentsilä (Bengtzilä) where Turkki families are from. Also there has been a lot of Turkkis in Säkkijärvi. I found a book from the year 1870 and it said that Turkki family have come from Mäntyharju (there came 3 men one settled to Siparila, one to Pentsilä and the third to Päivilä). I know someone in Mäntyharju Turkkis and he has gone to back to year ca. 1600. I hope to find a connection so that we could be sure that there is only 1 family line instead of 3. I found also someone in internet who is studying Päivilä Turkkis and we are cooperating now in order to solve the number of family lines and perhaps to form a family meeting or something. I found from the migration institute(Finland) that there have been a lot of Turkkis that have imigrated to America and Canada about 90-100 years ago from Säkkijärvi. But I only found 4 in Ellis Island records. This Säkkijärvi link is a total mystery to us. We don't know how they link to the Turkki family line we have solve so far and we are eager to find the link to them. Therefore if you have any info about Finnish Turks that have imigrated to America or Canada we would appreciate if you could send it to us as well. Thank you!

I noticed a message called " The Name "Turk"" in Turk forum on 17. May 2001 by B.L.Reynales and in Finnish Turkki means: (eläimen = animal) turkki = 1. fur, coat, hair 2. vaate (piece of clothing) = fur coat, fur, fleece So perhaps my ancestors have been trappers? You said that you already knew the Turcki version. From where? Could it been linked to the Scandinavia or perhaps even to Finland? I'm really curious.
